Cross-Register at EC

You are: a current NU-Q student and you want to cross-register at another Education City university.

Eligibility

Northwestern students may cross-register for courses at other Education City universities beginning in their sophomore year; this opportunity is not available to freshman students. Permission to cross-register is granted by Academic Affairs, which assists in the cross-registration process. Students should meet with their academic adviser to discuss cross-registration policies.

To apply for a cross-registration course:

  1. Complete the Education City Cross Registration Request Form. 
  2. Submit a copy of your passport with the registration form. Forms will not be accepted unless completed accurately and include the passport copy.

Policies

By enrolling at another university in Education City, you are agreeing to follow their university rules and policies. Not all universities follow the same academic calendar and you must adhere to the requirements of the host institution.

NU-Q students should be aware that cross-registered courses may count towards graduation but in keeping with Northwestern University policy, do not count in the determination of the overall GPA. Students who need a record of grades received in cross-registered courses should contact the host campus for an official transcript.

Below you will find information on the courses available for cross-registration by other universities in Education City for a term. All courses open to cross-registration each term are subject to space availability and pre-requisite.
The schedule of classes and course descriptions are posted on the below links if published and available. If they are not posted, you may check the university’s website. Cross-registration is up to the institution offering the course.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar 

  • The course schedule is available at:

  • Students are to complete the cross-registration application form and submit for their primary academic advisor to review and approve. Approved forms will be processed by the Student Records office and students need to download the final approved form and send via email with a copy of their passport to qatareducationform@andrew.cmu.edu.

  • Enrollment status updates will be communicated by the host university Registrar.
  • CMUQ will start accepting cross-registration forms for Fall 2024 from Sunday, July 7, 2024, until Thursday, August 8, 2024.
  • CMUQ will start its Fall 2024 term on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar

  • Fall 2024 schedule will be published after 4th April 2024.
  • Students wishing to take an ARABxxx or FRENxxx course MUST take a language placement test – no exceptions. The test is usually held only for the Fall semester. Students should contact GU-Q about the placement test timing.
  • Students are to complete the cross-registration application form and submit for their primary academic advisor to review and approve. Approved forms will be processed by the Student Records office and students need to download the final approved form and send via email to the Associate Registrar at GU-Q from Monday May 5, 2024
  • Enrollment status updates will be communicated by the host university Registrar.
  • Incomplete forms will be returned to the student.
  • Cross-registration forms for Fall 2024 will be accepted from Monday, May 5, 2024.
  • The forms should be complete with a clear, legible copy of the passport and sent with the attachments in a single email. Please name the file with the following convention:
    • Last Name_First Name; Home Univ to Host University; Semester
    • (e.g. Brown_Robert.CMUQ to GUQ.Fall24)
    • Incomplete forms will be returned to the student.
  • Forms must be typed – handwritten forms will not be processed.
  • The last day to receive cross-registration forms for Fall 2024 will be 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
  • Classes start on Sunday, August 25, 2024.  
  • Registration depends on available seats in the required course (including language courses but excluding joint programs).
  • Students will be given a GU-Q student ID card for access to the building and Library. This must be returned by the end of the semester, for your transcript to be issued. Students must complete the clearance form that can be found here. 

Texas A & M University in Qatar

  • The schedule of classes offered can be viewed online here beginning first week in April 2024. Please remember to select “Fall 2024 – Qatar” from the drop-down menu.
  • Fall classes begin Sunday, August 25, and end Sunday, December 8, 2024, with Finals scheduled for Tuesday to Thursday, December 10-12 and Sunday, December 15.
  • TAMUQ’s online application for cross-registration will open Sunday, July 28, 2024 for Education City students.
  • The deadline for submitting cross-registration applications is Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. To apply for cross-registration, you must:

    • Any questions about cross-registration should be directed to records@qatar.tamu.edu.
    • Note that US federal law requires TAMUQ, as an engineering school, to comply with export control policies related to information and technology. Therefore, students from certain countries may be required to submit additional documentation before being permitted to register for TAMUQ courses.

Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar

  • Course Schedule
  • Cross-Registration Forms are accepted starting Thursday, April 25, 2024, until Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 3:00pm
  • A Math Placement Test is required for registration in MATH or STAT courses (other than MATH 001). The test is usually held only for the Fall semester, generally in early August.
  • An Arabic Placement Test is required for registration in ARBC courses. The test is usually held only for the Fall semester, generally in early August.
  • Registration for Cross Registration will commence on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
  • Completed Cross Registration forms, including requisite approval signatures, must be submitted to the VCUarts Qatar’s Department of Enrollment & Registration Services by email to Sylvia D’Souza, Senior Specialist, at sdsouza@vcu.edu. Cross Registration forms which are not completed in full, missing requisite signatures, or missing the passport copy will not be accepted or processed.
  • All formalities re Cross Registration of EC students at VCUarts Qatar are handled exclusively by the Department of Enrollment & Registration Services.
  • Fall Classes start on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
  • Course instruction mode is expected to be in-person/in-classroom unless otherwise noted on the Course Schedule.
  • Registration for courses is conditional on the availability of seats.
  • Students who can be cross-registered in their preferred courses at VCUarts Qatar will be provided with a VCU-ID number as well as a VCU email address. Students must activate their VCU email. The VCU email is used for all official communications by the university, including by instructors.
  • VCUarts Qatar’s Department of Enrollment & Registration Services will notify students as to whether or not a student has been granted a seat in cross-registration status in the course(s) of interest.
  • Note that VCUarts Qatar complies with FERPA (US federal law) and the Virginia Code (Virginia state law) as it regards students’ right to privacy of their educational records and contact information.
  • For “Standard” Cross-Registration:
    • Students are to complete the cross-registration application form and submit it for their primary academic advisor to review and approve. Approved forms will be processed by the Student Records office and students need to download the final approved form and send via email with a copy of their passport to VCUarts Qatar’s Department of Enrollment & Registration Services by emailing Sylvia D’Souza, Senior Specialist, at sdsouza@vcu.edu.
    • Cross Registration forms that are not completed in full, missing requisite signatures, or missing the passport copy will not be accepted or processed.
  • For “Special” Cross Registration (Film Design Minor)
    • Completed Cross Registration forms are submitted to VCUarts Qatar by your home institution’s Registrar.
    • Please see your Registrar for requirements and deadlines.

Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar

  • The Fall 2024 Course Schedule is yet to be published.
  • Forms must be submitted to the Office of Registrar at registrar@qatar-med.cornell.edu
