Media Innovation Lab Student Grants

The Media Innovation Lab (The MIL) Student Grant program provides funding opportunities for student projects that are aligned with the theme of the Media Innovation Lab each academic year.

Application Requirements

To apply for a grant, submit a completed grant proposal to Greg Bergida at
greg.bergida@northwestern.edu by October 30, 2018.

Timeline & Deadline

  • September 1: Grant application period opens.
  • October 30: Deadline to submit a project grant application.
  • Applications will be reviewed by the MIL Grant Board. The selected projects will be announced on or about November 10.

Project Requirements

  • Projects must be related to this year's Media Innovation Lab theme.
  • Teams must attend at least two workshops and/or training sessions recommended as part of the project during the Fall 2019.
  • Final project delivery is required by mid-spring semester (date TBA).
  • Teams must give a short community presentation during mid-spring semester, showcasing the final project and their process.

Team Requirements

  • The project must be completed by a team of 2-5 students + one volunteer project mentor (NU-Q faculty, NU-Q staff, or NU-Q alumni).
  • A student can only participate in one project team per academic year.
  • The project team must be comprised of at least 50% NU-Q students. The remaining members may be currently-enrolled Education City students.
  • All team members are required to attend workshops and/or training sessions identified as part of project requirements.

Award Amount

  • Each project team can receive funding for up to QAR 5,000 -- regardless of team size.
  • Grant funding will be distributed following the successful completion of the requirements outlined (also listed in the application), and will require receipts to be provided throughout the project according to NU-Q policies and procedures.
