Procedures for Various Situations

With adequate planning, we can respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.

Here you can find instructions for how to respond to various emergencies.

In many circumstances, you should evacuate the building. Whenever evacuating remember the following guidelines:

Fire

  1. Call 4454 5247 and report the location and nature of the fire.
  2. Activate the closest fire alarm.
  3. Evacuate to the designated evacuation area.

Medical

  1. Call 4454 5247 and report the nature of the illness or injury and the location.
  2. Notify a supervisor or other person in charge.
  3. Stay with the victim until help arrives if you are not in immediate danger.

Flood

  1. Do not enter any flooded area.
  2. If the flooding is minor, email NU-Q facilities and report the location and nature of leak.

Earthquake

  1. Take cover under a desk or table, protecting as much of your body as possible, especially your head and neck.
  2. Stay away from windows and objects that may fall.
  3. Do not run outside.
  4. If outdoors, stay in an open area.
  5. After shaking stops, evacuate to your designated evacuation area.

Bomb Threat

  1. Report the threat immediately to 4454 5247. Do not use a mobile phone since a mobile phone signal can be used to set off an explosive.
  2. Evacuate the area calmly.
