Incoming Student Resources

Northwestern University in Qatar is committed to ensuring our students can connect to courses and learning resources while participating remotely. This page provides incoming students a checklist of set-up steps for your student accounts, as well as other technology resources helpful for the start of your journey at NU-Q.

How do I set up my accounts?

You will require your Northwestern NetID, Email and Duo multifactor authentication working to be ready for NU-Q orientation and course registration. Please confirm that you have all three working by following the instructions below. Once confirmed, please complete our IT New Student NetID Activation Confirmation Survey. (NetID login required) 

  • NetID - - enter the activation code from your Admissions portal and create your NetID password and security questions.
  • Email - Ensure you have access to your Google G Suite.
  • Duo - MFA Quick Guide (You need DUO to access the registration system Caesar and many other systems at Northwestern.)

    • If you will not be in Qatar at the start of the Fall 2020 semester, make sure to bring the smartphone that you have registered with Duo Mobile to Qatar, when you come. We recommend registering your phone to use the Duo Mobile app, so that you will be able to use it once you come to Qatar. 

What technology will I need for my classes?

Hardware Recommendations
  • You will have the most success with laptops and desktops that are less than five years old and meet the University’s hardware recommendations. For your first semester, you will only need a laptop or desktop with the minimum level of specifications.
  • You may also want to have:
    • Speakers, headphones, or earphones
    • Microphone – wired or wireless
    • Webcam (if not already included in your device)
