Student Housing

NU-Q students may elect to live in dormitories on Education City campus, managed by HBKU. Housing is single-gender with designated areas that are gender-neutral.

Housing Options

1. Apartments

On-campus apartment buildings contain studios, and one- and two-bedroom units with kitchenettes.

2. Residence Halls

On-campus residence halls contain one-bedroom units without kitchenette.


Apply for Housing

Note: On-campus student housing is managed by Hamad Bin Khalifa University and not Northwestern University. Rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. First-year students can apply as soon as they receive their official acceptance from NU-Q. Do not delay in applying for your space.

  1. Once you have been accepted to NU-Q, complete the housing interest form. NU-Q will provide HBKU student housing with your detailed information, which will be entered into our online system.
  2. You will receive an e-mail informing you that you have been entered in the HBKU student housing system and the housing application is now available for you to complete. 
  3. Once you receive the link in your email, please complete the online portal information. You will be sent a link to the housing portal During the online application process, you will be asked to attach the following supporting documentation:
    • photo
    • scanned color copy of your passport
    • proof of payment of deposit (QAR 2000)
  4. The assigning of housing will begin in mid-June and we will likely have placements completed by the first week in August. You will receive notification of your placement and details of your roommate/apartment mate via the email provided in your application.

Students are required to check-in to their assigned room within one week of the start of the fall/spring semester, and within 48 hours for the summer semester. Failing to meet this requirement will be considered as a no-show. Any requests to arrive prior to this time must be submitted to the NU-Q Housing Liaison, Ahmad Alony Hamed,

All newly admitted students should submit their information through the Admissions portal. Returning students are required to complete the housing interest form.
