COVID 19 Updates

As of April 1, 2023, Qatar has removed all COVID-19 travel restrictions. There are no current COVID-19 related restrictions or requirements for travelers entering Qatar.

Staying informed about the latest developments with the disease, including new variants and treatments, remains especially important for older community members and those with chronic health issues, as they are most at risk for severe illness.

For further information about COVID-19, please visit the CDC’s website.

  • Students, faculty, and staff are highly recommended to be vaccinated. Booster shots are available at Qatar University Health Center.  Watch out for annual COVID-19 Booster campaigns hosted by NU-Q HSSE.
  • Face masks are no longer mandatory; however, they are recommended for anyone vulnerable or with a chronic condition, when you are near people who may have symptoms, or when you are in crowded or poorly ventilated areas.
  • Social distancing is no longer required.
  • If you suspect you have COVID-19, you are recommended to take a home-test.  Test kits are available in the HSSE Department or local pharmacies.
  • If your home-test is positive, you should visit the Qatar Foundation Primary Health Care Clinic (PHCC), or nearest clinic, and consult with a physician.  The physican will determine your level of infection, and advize on next steps.  This may include a period of isolation, or continue with work or classess, but to wear facial protection and maintain social distancing with regular washing of hands, for a designated number of days.
  • Please see MOPH guidance for further information.
  • The Northwestern Qatar Infectious Disease Plan includes emergency response protocols in case of incidents of suspected positive cases in the Northwestern Qatar building.
  • Please continue to take personal responsibility to protect yourself and others.
  • Close contact cases are not required to isolate but are recommended to test if you are at high risk of developing severe symptoms e.g., immunocompromised, or have a chronic condition, and should wear a face mask for 10 days.
  • Please contact NU-Q HSSE should you require further information.
