Student Position: Course Assistant - INTERDIS 311-0: Datafication and Society Spring 2025
Responsibilities:
- Assist in keeping careful records of student attendance in accordance with the course instructor’s guidance and the stated attendance policy of the course.
- Remind students about course assignment submission deadlines, forward queries from students to the course instructor, and manage any other non-grading-based aspect of the coursework.
- Scanning, photocopying, and uploading course materials or printing articles or specific chapters as per course instructor’s direction.
- Helping and motivating students to read and engage with course material and access library course reserve services if required.
- Organizing and distributing learning materials as asked and required by the course instructor.
- Prepare graphic/visuals-based power point slides as per the provided details and notes by the course instructor.
- If required design canvas learning modules at the instructor’s direction if required and requested by the course instructor.
- Mentorship of student peers in library research, production, or other study skills. This should be as per the instructor’s guidance and expectations.
- Provide feedback to instructor on course development and assessment based on previous experience.
- Coordinating, managing and sorting out students group related work and issues. Including enforcing course and syllabus related policies and rules on group assignments and work.
- Providing weekly updates and details to the course instructor regarding all course assistance related work.
- Have to be proactive and should not wait for the instructor to ask for things. If instructor finds the course assistant(s) are not fulfilling their task dedicatedly and in a professionally responsible manner, instructor will terminate the concerned student course assistant’s work tenure in a week’s notice.
- Students who intend to work parallelly with any other department or instructor or/and have almost exhausted their work hour quota are strongly discouraged to apply.
- Students who have availability of their work hours quota and can work dedicatedly as course assistants for this course from the beginning of the semester Jan 2025 until first week of May 2025 are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Anything not stated above and as directed, instructed and asked by the course instructor within the ambit of course assistance work.
- Other administrative or support functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Good academic, integrity, and conduct standing
- Previous experience of course assistants (desirable)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multitask, initiate and follow-through on projects, plan ahead, and manage time.
- Display strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of CANVAS
- Attention to detail
- Capacity to work professionally with peers
- Exemplary study habits and research/production skills
- Prior student enrollment in the class in which the Course Assistant is employed (desired)
