Student Position: Research Assistant 3

Professor Larissa Buchholz (Northwestern University School of Communication) is seeking 4-5 research assistants to help prepare and support interviews with artists, collectors, curators, and other cultural professionals in Qatar during her two-month Global Fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Global South at Northwestern University in Qatar (#IAS_NUQ). The work forms part of a larger comparative study on the development of contemporary art scenes and collecting cultures in Qatar, China, and Mexico, exploring how contemporary art communities, collecting practices, and cultural institutions emerge and evolve over time.

Responsibilities:

• • Help prepare and support interviews with artists, collectors, curators, and other cultural professionals in Qatar
• Conduct research activities tied to a comparative study of contemporary art scenes
• Assist with interview logistics, scheduling, and coordination
• Organize and maintain research data and related materials
• Other research tasks as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest in arts, culture, media, history, or social research
• Fluency in Arabic is preferred
• Acquaintance with Excel or similar software

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Enthusiasm for learning about research
• High attention to detail and punctuality
• Strong English-language skills
• Ability to work alongside faculty in a collegial manner

No prior research knowledge is necessary. The professor will guide students through the specific procedures, providing valuable learning experience and the opportunity to witness an empirical interview study unfold while acquiring related research skills.
